Our story
We didn’t start with a grand plan to build an accounting firm. We started with a love of bookkeeping, a few small-business clients, and a belief that this work could be done differently.
Co-founders, BBK Accounting
It started with bookkeeping.
Our company started in early 2008 as Backyard Bookkeeper, just as Julie—juggling several office manager positions at local small businesses—realized the part she really loved was bookkeeping. Alex, seeing that Julie was spending more time in QuickBooks than on Facebook, suggested turning that passion into a business.

Together, we built Backyard Bookkeeper into an organization that serves a growing number of businesses while offering remote work to qualified bookkeepers and payroll specialists who enjoy the work for its own sake.
A new name, BBK Accounting.
As our services grew beyond a small ‘backyard’ bookkeeping operation, the Backyard Bookkeeper name no longer told the whole story. BBK Accounting reflects the broader accounting support we provide today while keeping the initials our clients already know. Behind every clean set of books is a person who cares about getting it right. Our team is the heart of what we do — experienced, US-based specialists who treat your business like their own.
