Why businesses choose BBK
Most businesses choose one of three kinds of bookkeeping help, and each has trade-offs.

Solo bookkeepers can be a great fit for a small business. But when they get busy, service quality slips. As a one-person operation, it's hard to keep up with new technology and industry changes, and they can struggle when your business moves into territory they don't know well.

An in-house bookkeeper puts someone right down the hall, but it's hard to know whether a new hire can really handle your books until something goes wrong. Like a solo bookkeeper, they're a one-person show. As your business grows into new territory, such as a second entity, employees in another state, or a switch to accrual accounting, they may not know how to adapt, and they often have no one to turn to for help. And when they leave, what they knew about your books leaves with them.

Large accounting firms are built for volume. Work gets split across teams for efficiency, and clients feel it: slower responses, uneven quality, and a new bookkeeper every time someone moves on.
We built BBK to be the middle ground. You get the personal relationship of a small firm: a dedicated bookkeeper who knows you and your business. And you get the peace of mind of a larger team behind them:
Coverage:
teammates step in when your bookkeeper is out, so your books don't stall
Room to grow:
when your business needs something your bookkeeper hasn't done before, the team has someone who has
One standard:
do good work, consistently and efficiently, every month
Catch up: get your books back on track
Falling behind happens. So does inheriting books that a prior bookkeeper left in a mess. Either way, we get you to a clean, reconciled starting point.
Catch-up bookkeeping
Whether you're a few months or several years behind, we work through the backlog period by period. Every transaction gets recorded and categorized, every bank, credit card, and loan account is reconciled to its statements, and missing history is rebuilt from statements, receipts, and transcripts. Periods tied to a tax deadline come first.
When there's a lot of data, we use automation to bring it in. You should never pay a bookkeeper to sit and type in transactions by hand.

Fixing prior bookkeeper errors
When reports don't look right, the cause is usually months of small errors. We trace each problem to its source and fix it: miscategorized, missing, and duplicate entries, balance sheet accounts that don't tie out, and a chart of accounts that has grown messy. Every correction is documented for you and your tax preparer.
What to expect
Catch-up and cleanup projects typically take 2 to 12 weeks, depending on how far back the work goes and how quickly records come in. We give you an estimate before we get far into the work. Historical work can turn up surprises: documents are hard to track down, data sources are hard to recover, and nobody remembers every transaction from three years ago. When that happens, we tell you right away and work with your budget.
Stay current: reliable monthly bookkeeping
Monthly bookkeeping and financial statements
Every standard bookkeeping package includes:
- All transactions entered and categorized from every account
- Data imported from connected systems, such as payroll, point of sale, or practice management platforms
- Imported activity checked against your bank activity, with any gaps filled
- Questions sent to you about transactions we can't categorize on our own
- Every account reconciled and loose ends tied up each month
- A profit and loss statement and balance sheet every month
- Year-end 1099 review, preparation, and filing for the vendors and contractors you pay
Most clients receive their financial statements by the middle of the following month. If you need them sooner for lenders, investors, or internal reporting, tell us up front and we'll build that turnaround into your package, reserving time early in the month for your close. If we're waiting on information from you, we don't hold everything back: we send your financials marked incomplete so you still have numbers to work from.
You'll meet your bookkeeping team on a kickoff call over Zoom. After that, most communication happens by email, and you can send documents through a shared secure folder or the secure upload on our website. Larger packages, or clients who request them as part of their package, also get a monthly or quarterly Zoom check-in with their bookkeeper.
No two businesses are alike, so we customize every package to fit.
Bookkeeping built around your team
Many small businesses already have someone in-house handling part of the accounting: invoicing and collections, paying bills, running payroll, tracking expenses, or entering data.
That person is often doing good work but isn't a trained accountant, and nobody is making sure all the pieces add up to accurate financial reports.
We don't insist on replacing what's working. On the sales call, we find the gaps in your current setup and build your package around them. We work with what your team provides and reconcile the books around the work they're already doing. As your needs change, adding more is easy.
Fully Automated Books
If you'd rather not be involved in your books at all, Fully Automated Books (FAB) may fit better than a full monthly package. AI handles the routine work and learns your business month to month, and a BBK bookkeeper reviews every close. FAB starts at $100 a month and works best for owners who want their books handled automatically, without monthly meetings or custom reporting.
See clearly and scale smoothly: when you need more than bookkeeping
Accurate books are the foundation. As your business grows, you may need reporting that does more: reports organized around how your business runs, budgets and margin analysis, or accrual-basis financials that show your true performance. Your bookkeeper will tell you when you've reached that point, and our team can take you there.
Financial reporting and analysis: reports built around how your business runs, connected data, budgets and margin analysis, and accrual or GAAP-ready financials
Accounting manager and systems: for when your finance function outgrows its tools and workflows
How it works
Discovery call (day 1).
We learn how your business works, what you need, and where the gaps are. Then we build a flat-rate package and send your agreement.
Onboarding (target: within 7 days).
Our onboarding team sets up access to your accounting platform and bank accounts, gathers your last filed tax return and other key records, and handles any necessary technical work such as converting a QuickBooks Desktop file. Their goal is to get your bookkeeper fully prepared before the kickoff call. Timing can stretch with access issues or complex conversions.
Kickoff call.
You meet your bookkeeping team over Zoom. We confirm the scope of work and agree on an action plan.
Catch-up, if needed (typically 2 to 12 weeks).
We review the books in full, complete any cleanup, and bring everything current through the latest period.
Monthly bookkeeping.
Your books are closed every month, with financial statements delivered on the schedule you need.
Pricing
Prices on this page are for bookkeeping on its own. We can build it into a customized package with any of our other services, such as payroll, tax preparation, and advisory, for one monthly price. Schedule a call to put yours together.
Monthly bookkeeping is a flat-rate package, starting at $220 per month. We build each package from a conversation about your business, so you pay for the work your books actually need.
How we set your price
We don't charge more just because a business brings in more money. We charge for complexity. The main things that raise a package are:
- More revenue streams, especially sales coming in through several platforms
- Complex balance sheet items, such as inventory or a high volume of accounts payable
- Accrual accounting, including prepaid expenses, accrued liabilities, and other adjustments that bank activity alone doesn't capture
- Faster turnaround, when you need financials earlier than mid-month
- Added services, such as trust accounting or sales tax support
Sample monthly packages
| Business | Typical monthly package |
|---|---|
| A business with one entity and light transaction volume | from $220 |
| Small nonprofit with several grants and some payroll | $700 |
| E-commerce business with two sales channels and $300K a month in sales | $1,000 |
| Marketing agency with two revenue streams and accrual reporting | $1,400 |
| Law firm with 300 open matters, hard costs, a trust account, and 1,000 transactions a month | $2,000 |
Your quote will depend on your business size and complexity. These are examples, not price guarantees.
Catch-up, cleanup, and hourly work
Catch-up, cleanup, and other hourly bookkeeping is billed at $100 per hour. We estimate the work before we get far into it and keep you posted as we go. Projects on a very tight deadline carry a rush premium, since meeting them means overtime or moving other work aside.
Setup fees and deposits
| If you're starting with | One-time setup fee | Deposit |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly bookkeeping, or two or more services (bookkeeping, payroll, reporting) | $300 | None |
| Hourly bookkeeping only | $200 | None |
| Catch-up or cleanup | $200 | $300 or $500, depending on the size of the project |
Industries and software
We work with businesses in almost every industry, and many of our clients have been with us for years. Good bookkeeping looks different in every industry, so our team learns the platforms, rules, and reporting needs of the industries we serve most:
Law firms.
About a third of our clients are law firms. We handle trust accounting (IOLTA), including monthly three-way reconciliations, keep your practice management system and your books in agreement, and clean up trust accounts that have drifted out of balance.
Nonprofits.
Grants and programs tracked separately, restricted and unrestricted funds kept straight, and financial reports your board can read, with books ready for your annual return and, when needed, an audit by an independent CPA firm.
Construction and trades.
Job costing and class tracking, so you can see which jobs actually make money.
SaaS and technology.
Subscription revenue, payment processor data, and the deferred revenue that comes with annual contracts.
E-commerce.
Sales from your online store and marketplaces reconciled to the deposits that actually hit your bank, with platform fees, refunds, and sales tax recorded correctly.
Real estate.
Investors, house flippers, residential and commercial property, and short-term rentals, with income and expenses tracked by property.
Restaurants and hospitality.
Daily point-of-sale sales, tips, and delivery-app payouts reconciled, so your labor and food costs are numbers you can act on.
We also work with professional services firms, health and wellness practices, and businesses holding cryptocurrency.
We're software-agnostic. We work in all the major accounting platforms, including QuickBooks, Xero, and Zoho, and we pick up new platforms often, including proprietary accounting systems.
Frequently asked questions
How much does bookkeeping cost?
Monthly bookkeeping packages start at $220 per month. Your price depends on the complexity of your business, not its revenue. Catch-up and cleanup work is billed at $100 per hour, with an estimate up front.
When will I get my monthly financial statements?
Most clients receive them by the middle of the following month. If you need them sooner, we can build a faster turnaround into your package.
What if I'm missing some information?
We'll ask for what we need. If something is still outstanding at month-end, we send your financials marked incomplete rather than holding them back.
How long does catch-up take?
Typically 2 to 12 weeks, depending on how far behind the books are and how quickly records come in.
How soon can we start?
Our target is to have onboarding finished and your kickoff call held within 7 days of signing.
Do I have to replace my in-house staff?
No. We fill the gaps in what your team already does and make sure it all comes together in accurate financial reports.
How do I communicate with my bookkeeper?
Mostly by email, plus a secure folder or our secure website upload for documents. Larger packages include monthly or quarterly Zoom check-ins.
What happens when my bookkeeper is out?
Your bookkeeper is backed by a team. Someone else steps in so your books keep moving.
Is your team based in the US?
Yes. Our team is US-based, and we don't offshore your work.
What accounting software do you use?
We work in all the major platforms, including QuickBooks, Xero, and Zoho, as well as many industry-specific and proprietary systems.
